Food Factors protection against prostate cancer
Fruits and herbs: There are many arguments in support to cancer protective effect of fruit and vegetables. A recent study by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in the US has shown that increased consumption of vegetables cause an appreciable decrease the risk of prostate cancer. Thus, men who consumed an average of 4 or more servings of vegetables a day had a risk of prostate cancer by 35% lower compared to those who consumed less than 2 servings daily. Vegetables and herbs with the strongest protective effect were those of the cabbage family (cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, etc.). Men who ate 3 or more servings per week of these foods enjoyed a decrease in the risk of prostate cancer by 40% compared with those who ate such foods less than once a bye week.
Tomatoes and tomato juice: Several studies have identified lycopene (found in large quantities in tomatoes and tomato juice have a significantly protective effect. A study of 22,000 men followed for 13 years showed those with blood levels of lycopene increased the risk of prostate cancer by 60% lower compared to those with low levels.
Vitamin E: A Finnish study conducted on a group of 29,000 smokers who took a daily supplement of 50 IU of vitamin E showed a 41% decrease in prostate cancer deaths.
Vitamin D: Vitamin D appears to have anti-tumor effect against prostate cancer. Data from a study of a large number of healthcare workers (over 47,000 men) have shown that vitamin D (and eating fruits) in a largely protects against prostate cancer.
Selenium: Selenium is a trace mineral with antioxidant in the body. Health workers survey data showed that men who ate the most selenium had a 51% lower risk of prostate cancer compared with those who had the lowest intake of this mineral. The same effect was evident by the experimental clinical trial in which a group of 1,312 people given 200 mcg of selenium daily for 4.5 years. There was decreased by about prostate cancer. 50% compared to the control group which was not administered selenium. Foods richest in selenium are Brazil nuts and whole grains (2 brazil nuts are sufficient to cover the needs of selenium for a whole day).
Pay attention to how much you eat! Do not overeat proves protect not only obesity but also against prostate cancer. At least that's according to a survey of 197 in Canada: Men who consumed the most calories had prostate cancer risk 2.7 times higher than those eating the least calories.

Reduce your intake of milk and dairy Some studies have linked the consumption of dairy products and increased prostate cancer risk. The cause appears to be higher intakes of calcium to those who consume dairy.
